/// BILL CUNNINGHAM, NY

I will get around to posting about my travels for the month of June & all the other happenings, I swear. However, I am more interested in the film I saw tonight: "Bill Cunningham, New York".

I was in awe watching this 80 something year old pioneer of fashion journalism bike around, snapping photographs. He is the father of capturing street style. His honesty and his refusal to compromise his beliefs is so refreshing. Even if you're not interested in fashion, it's a really great documentary about a man whose career spans decades, capturing so many different people on film.

/// STEAL THIS :: JAY REATARD

Jay Reatard is one of my all-time favorites. At any given time, I can put on any of his albums & feel awesome. Whether it's the Reatards, Nervous Patterns, or just his solo work, all of it is solid & fucking amazing. When I heard he died, it absolutely broke my heart. (I even contemplated driving to his funeral, I'm that obsessed.) Fortunately, I was lucky enough to see him play live about 6 months before he died. He even kicked a jerk off audience member in the head, It was glorious.

And the trailer for a documentary about him:

/// STEAL THIS :: TY SEGALL

I cannot get Ty Segall out of my head. Nor do I want to. My obsession with him has the potential to reach the same caliber of my infatuation with Jay Reatard. (More on that guy later.) And there are definitely some similarities between the two artists, like how they churn out music like it's nobody's business. But Ty Segall has that great rock sound without sounding pissed off all the time, which makes him even greater.

MYSPACE

I went overboard with videos. Told you I was obsessed.

(NYC photos & recap coming up.)

PS. I fully intended to post this yesterday. However, I got to spend some quality time with the movers yesterday. They finally showed up to load my furniture & my belongings are finally on their way to Phoenix. Whoa.

/// INTERRUPTED

Pardon me, but I'm in NEW YORK CITY until Sunday. (I actually arrived late Wednesday night.) I get the pleasure of spending the next few days with the people I love, in the city I love. I'm officially under the four week mark until I move out West -- and I still have two more cities to go. But for now, I only have New York on my mind...

(Ps. Is it obvious we're sisters?)

/// STEAL THIS :: THE BLACK LIPS

I just realized the last time I posted was three weeks ago. Where the fuck did that time go? Oh right -- I'm packing up my life & headed West. Forgot about that for a second. It's weird to think that...

... the movers come in one week.
... my last day of work is in three weeks.
... I fly out in five weeks.

(Can you say, "SHIT!"?)

Oh well. On with the show. I've been a nerd for the Black Lips for a while. They always get me going when I'm down. And their latest album, Arabia Mountain, is no exception. I probably listen to it about four times a day. I'm adding it to my iPod as I type so I can rock out on my super awesome (sarcasm) bus ride to Philly tomorrow. It's my new mission to see them live again. (I'm in dire need of a sweaty rock show.) Here's one of my favorite tracks off the new album, made better by a ridiculous video.
